Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Physiotherapist to provide services to patients referred to Outpatient Rehabilitation. The ideal candidate will have a Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the CPO.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of six (6) months’ orthopedic experience in evidenced-based approach to service delivery. Candidates that possess experience working in assessment and treatment of out-patient musculoskeletal conditions is preferred.

REHABILITATION PROFESSIONALS INCENTIVE GRANT

The incentive grant program offers taxable incentive grants of up to $5,000 per eligible year, to a maximum of $15,000 paid over a three-year period to audiologists, chiropodists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech language pathologists who establish their practice in Northern Ontario and accept full-time positions which are fully funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and which are approved by the Northern Health Programs (NHP). In order to be eligible for this incentive grant, the NHP must approve the application before the applicant establishes his/her practice. More information regarding this grant can be found here.

KEY FUNCTION

Provide services to patients referred to Outpatient Rehabilitation.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Outpatient Rehabilitation Programs.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Perform detailed, comprehensive medical history and physical assessment of patients to establish a clinical impression for physiotherapy intervention when required.
  2. Initiate and execute all physiotherapy treatments related to the clinical impression to deliver patient care, and perform on-going evaluations to determine when discharge from service is appropriate.
  3. Provide supervision and direction to Physiotherapy Assistants (PTA) and assigned support personnel as required in accordance with the standards defined by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO).
  4. Provide coverage for physiotherapy services within the service.
  5. Document assessment in the patient’s medical chart, clinical impression, and all related physiotherapy intervention and patient outcomes; maintain an accepted standard of documentation for quality assurance as outlined by HSN policies and the CPO.
  6. Communicate verbally or through written reports with other health care professionals regarding patient management for clinical problem-solving and program development.
  7. Act as a professional resource for internal health care providers and community partners.
  8. Provide theoretical and clinical education/supervision to physiotherapy students and undergraduate students.
  9. Develop and implement self-learning objectives, participate in related postgraduate educational opportunities to improve clinical expertise, and integrate new knowledge to enhance patient care.
  10. Participate on patient care teams and other committees, including Professional Council meetings, regarding the development of policies and procedures, forms and audits, and coverage/vacation planning within the professional discipline.
  11. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  12. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  13. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  14. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  15. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  16. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the CPO.
  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of six (6) months’ orthopedic experience in evidenced-based approach to service delivery.
  2. Experience working in assessment and treatment of out-patient musculoskeletal conditions is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise, and mentor students and support personnel.
  2. Demonstrated current knowledge of trends in general health care and community resources.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  4. Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
  5. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  6. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  7. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  8. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  10. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
