Purpose: Schedules all pre-op patients for a Pre Admission appointment and communicates this information to the patient. Communicates the patient’s planned surgical date. Informs the patient of what is required for the Pre Admission visit. Books the patient for an anesthesia consultation as required. The clerk reviews the surgical request for any required pre-op testing and works with the surgeon’s offices to ensure these are arranged. Communicates all pertinent alerts via the Community Wide Scheduling system. Confirms client/patient information. Initiates patient chart via the e-Request system. Answers and responds to phone messages or forwards callers to appropriate health care professional or other personnel.
Education and Training:
- Graduate from a recognized Medical Office Administration course or related program.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
Experience:
- Minimum one (1) year recent relevant experience (in the last 5 years).
- Minimum of 6 months experience using Meditech Expanse and Community Wide Scheduling or equivalent.
Knowledge/Skills
Ability:
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of medical and non-medical personnel and other clients.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical Terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately type a minimum of 50 wpm.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Proficiency in data entry and working knowledge of computerized patient information systems (Community Wide Scheduling).
Personal Suitability:
- Proven ability to work independently with excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
