Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Coordinator, Sudbury Breast Screening and Assessment Service to organize, coordinate patient flow through the delivery of screening, diagnostics, and interventional and follow-up care of breast cancer assessment for patients and manage the day-to-day operations of the Breast Screening and Assessment Service (BSAS) at HSN.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Diploma in a Medical Radiation and/or Imaging Technology Program, from an accredited college and current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO). We are looking for someone with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a Medical Radiation and/or Imaging Technology department within a hospital setting, with a minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience working in breast imaging. A minimum of one (1) year experience working in a leadership/supervisory role, within a health care environment is required.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Breast Screening and Assessment Service provides timely and efficient access to breast services. We offer navigation for patient with suspicious breast abnormalities. Our team works with primary health teams in order to expedite appointments as well as support patients through the diagnostic phase of investigation and consultation.
Services we offer: Ontario Breast Screening Program, Digital Mammography, Ultrasound, Breast Consultation Service, Biopsies and Localizations, Education and Support Services.

KEY FUNCTION:
Organize, coordinate, and manage all of the operations of the Breast Screening and Assessment Service (BSAS) at HSN.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging.
DUTIES:
1. Coordinate patient flow through the delivery of screening, diagnostics, and interventional and follow-up care of breast cancer assessment for patients.
2. Ensure patient care through a single access service with a patient-centred and timely case management system.
3. Ensure breast screening is delivered in accordance with Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and screening targets.
4. Ensure adequate staffing and management of a multidisciplinary team; monitor workload standards, productivity, and recommend appropriate staffing levels to the Manager.
5. Review and recommend policy revisions; contribute to the review of Provincial OBSP policies, procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and standards as required.
6. Assist in the implementation of special projects, including equipment replacement and new information technology (e.g. selection, procurement, and policy and process development).
7. Oversee all risk management activities.
8. Ensure BSAS is in adherence to Cancer Care Ontario (CCO)/OBSP, Quality Control/Physics standard, and all other relevant standards; escalate problems or concerns to appropriate Manager.
9. Liaise and facilitate with medical team members to ensure coordination, troubleshooting, and efficient functioning of the program.
10. Ensure the timely reporting of results to clients and their physicians; assist in establishing processes for the follow-up of abnormal findings in women without a family physician in a thorough, timely, and complete manner.
11. Collaborate with other departments and programs to ensure quality delivery of service.
12. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate, report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as appropriate on incidents.
13. Manage human resources which include: recruitment, selection and training.
14. Guide, motivate, monitor and supervise staff, develop standards of performance, evaluate performance and make recommendations on disciplinary action as required.
15. Oversee the work of others in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations, and HSN policies.
16. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
17. Participate in the accreditation process and work to ensure that the program and HSN achieve, maintain and continually improve upon their accredited status.
18. Teach, coach and lead staff in the development and monitoring of quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
19. Engage in and foster professional development of all staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.
20. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required on incidents.
21. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/organizations/community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery.
22. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
23. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
24. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a Diploma in a Medical Radiation and/or Imaging Technology Program from an accredited College.
2. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a Medical Radiation and/or Imaging Technology department within a health care environment.
2. Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a leadership/supervisory role, preferably within a health care environment.
3. Minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience working in breast imaging.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of relevant professional practice guidelines (e.g. College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO), American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), and Sonography Canada).
2. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of X-Ray safety regulations.
3. Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders by using comprehensive knowledge of the legislation governing bodies to ensure compliance.
4. Demonstrated ability to identify and implement data indicators to develop quality improvement.
5. Proven ability to monitor, administer and report on budgets.
6. Demonstrated ability to coach, advise and teach others using the principles of adult learning.
7. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
8. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
9. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and principles of management, hospital committee structure, conflict management and resolution, system needs analysis and organizational assessment.
10. Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and employees.
11. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
12. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
13. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
