KEY FUNCTION:

Develop, monitor, and manage quality assurance processes in various datasets to ensure data integrity required for program funding. Provide analytical and consultative support through the provision of integrated statistical, financial, and clinical information to facilitate evidence-based decision-making and research activities.

 

REPORTING:

Under the general direction of Clinical Manager, In-Center Dialysis & Regional Renal Program Data and Reporting.

 

DUTIES

  1. Collect and report all funding specific requirements outlined in the Ontario Renal Network (ORN) funding guide on a monthly basis, and forward the information to Decision Support for upload in Self Reporting Initiative (SRI).
  2. Collect monthly data requirements from internal and external sources (e.g. various nephrology modalities) for new and existing patients or as dictated by the Ontario Renal Reporting System (ORRS).
  3. Oversee the annual patient surveys and the facility report.
  4. Act as the ORRS data lead for new and existing initiatives and by representing the renal programs and satellites at HSN.
  5. Participate in monthly ORRS teleconferences and training and development programs.
  6.  Analyze the collected data by creating graphs and tabular data.
  7. Collect data and complete the Nephrology department’s annual report, and disseminate information to all satellite host hospitals.
  8. Represent the department provincially via the Regional Renal Steering Committee as required and act as the ORRS data lead for HSN during ORN lead quarterly reviews.
  9. Lead the HSN Regional Renal Program internal program reporting requirements (i.e. monthly and quarterly statistics preparation and submissions).
  10. Develop, monitor, and manage quality assurance processes on various datasets to ensure data integrity.
  11. Utilize relational database functions and features to extract, manipulate, interpret, analyze, and present data from internal and external sources (e.g. CyberRen, Meditech) to stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to meet the departmental funding requirements.
  12. Work collaboratively with data producers/owners and Information Technology (IT) to develop methodologies for streamlining and automating the manual collection of statistics to improve data integrity.
  13. Monitor and report key performance indicators.
  14. Collaborate with end-users to develop customized data formats that provide information to address specific clinical, financial, and research questions.
  15. Recognize datasets from different sources, and create ways to integrate information to find underlying trends and opportunities.
  16. Act as a primary resource for external data requests and work collaboratively with the appropriate internal operational departments. 
  17. Provide leadership regarding data requirements across multiple platforms and databases.
  18. Act as a training resource and super-user for multiple database management and reporting software.
  19. Educate clinical leaders and medical staff in clinical data sets, Management Information Systems (MIS) reporting requirements, Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) Methodologies, Meditech and related systems. 
  20. Collect and report on all statistical information.
  21. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  22. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  23. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  24. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
  25. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  1. Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Computer Information Systems or a Health Information Management field, from a recognized Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) program from an accredited college.
  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a health care environment.
  2. Training or recent experience with the Renal Data Management System (CyberRen) is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge and relevant use of health care related database (e.g. SRI systems and ORRS is preferred).
  2. Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
  3. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  5. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  6. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  8. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

  8. Willingness to travel occasionally within Northern Ontario.
  9. Ability to travel between local sites.
