KEY FUNCTION

 Assist with grounds keeping duties ensuring safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal.  Perform equipment winterization on tools and equipment.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Facilities Management.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Prepare and assemble materials, tools, supplies and equipment for work to be performed.
  2. Operate various pieces of equipment related to grounds keeping (i.e. snowplows, lawn mowers).
  3. Perform winter preparation of lawns/gardens; fill sand boxes and store summer equipment.
  4. Perform grounds safety inspections.
  5. Maintain all walkways, sidewalks, and entrances.
  6. Perform lawn care, maintain and clean-up grounds, and clean equipment.
  7. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  8. Participate in hospital training as required.
  9. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
  10. Perform other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Three (3) months of recent relevant experience is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated ability to safely operate outdoor power equipment (i.e. lawn mower, trimmer, snow blower).
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of safe working practices.
  3. Demonstrated computer skills with basic skills proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  4. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Ability to prioritize tasks.
  6. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

 

PERSONAL SUITABILITY: 

  1. Successful Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check is required.
  2. Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle is required.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  4. Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  5. Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
  6. Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
  7. Ability to travel between local sites.
