KEY FUNCTION:
Provide service to individuals admitted to inpatient units with eating disorders, and to their families. Provide education, clinical consultation and expert advice to the care providers of admitted patients as part of the Intensive In-Reach (IIR) service, and support service delivery in the outpatient eating disorders program.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Regional Eating Disorders.
DUTIES:
- Provide guidance, direction and recommendations for inpatient nutritional care in consultation and collaboration with inpatient Registered Dietitians.
- Consult and liaise with medical and clinical staff and the Regional Eating Disorder Program team members to determine the appropriate level of support to meet client and family needs while admitted to hospital.
- Review clients and provide recommendations regarding high energy refeeding for nutritional rehabilitation, weight restoration and refeeding syndrome prevention, monitoring and management.
- Provide recommendations regarding appropriate nutritional counseling for clients and families with respect to nutrition issues and the ongoing nutritional status of clients in consultation and collaboration with inpatient and outpatient RDs.
- Act as a resource for client and family education.
- Assess educational needs and provide formal and informal education and teaching to clinical staff to further develop their knowledge, skills and competency with eating disorders care.
- Provide support to the outpatient and intensive outpatient service as assigned.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, from an accredited university.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario is required.
- Successful completion of a Dietetic Internship Program is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an eating disorders or clinical nutrition department within a health care environment.
- Experience in community program development and education is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of psychological factors affecting eating disorder clients.
- Demonstrated understanding of the psychosocial, physical, and functional problems endemic to eating disorders.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of techniques for assessing nutritional states in eating disorder clients.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of techniques of program design and delivery.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
