Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Manager, Digital Transformation to lead quality improvement initiatives that support the implementation, monitoring, and optimization of HSN’s clinical information systems, with a focus on improving workflows, digital adoption, data integrity, and patient care outcomes. Contribute to the implementation and realization of HSN’s Digital and Data Strategy by working collaboratively with clinical programs and ancillary teams to advance initiatives aligned with organizational priorities, provincial expectations, and accreditation standards.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics, Quality Improvement, Health Administration, or a related field from an accredited university. We are looking for someone with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a healthcare setting with a focus in informatics, quality improvement, or clinical system implementation. Additionally, candidates who possess two (2) years’ experience in a project manager, team lead, or quality improvement leadership role and experience supporting EMR optimization, quality improvement initiatives, and performance measurement are required.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Informatics program is responsible for supporting the digital operational needs of the organization. With a focus on bridging clinical workflows with technology, the Clinical Informatics and Applications team supports frontline staff in delivering safe patient care. The team oversees the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of electronic medical record systems and other clinical applications.

KEY FUNCTION:
Lead quality improvement initiatives that support the implementation, monitoring, and optimization of HSN’s clinical information systems, with a focus on improving workflows, digital adoption, data integrity, and patient care outcomes. Contribute to the implementation and realization of HSN’s Digital and Data Strategy by working collaboratively with clinical programs and ancillary teams to advance initiatives aligned with organizational priorities, provincial expectations, and accreditation standards.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Director, Informatics.
DUTIES:
- Lead large-scale digital transformation initiatives with an organization-wide and regional impact, including the planning and deployment of integrated digital tools and enterprise-wide platforms that enhance patient and provider experience; lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation and ensure alignment with clinical, regulatory, and strategic priorities.
- Engage clinical teams and frontline staff in identifying workflow, documentation, and data issues; co-design solutions, and advance user-centered system improvements.
- Drive the standardization of digital workflows and processes across clinical and non-clinical departments; ensure consistent processes, documentation standards, and digital practices are adopted organization-wide as required.
- Apply quality improvement methodologies and data analysis (e.g., PDSA, Lean, process mapping, KPIs) to measure effectiveness, identify trends, and support reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the development and implementation of change management, communication, and training plans in partnership with Clinical Informatics and Applications team to support adoption of EMR and digital initiatives.
- Contribute to the realization of HSN’s Digital and Data Strategy through collaboration with clinical programs, informatics, and ancillary teams, ensuring execution is in alignment with organizational goals, provincial requirements, and accreditation standards.
- Lead and participate in internal working groups and external committees focused on digital quality improvement, representing HSN’s operational and system improvement interests; represent HSN on regional and provincial committees.
- Provide leadership for digital process alignment and standardization with shared service organizations and regional partners, ensuring consistent implementation of shared regional digital solutions across partner sites and programs.
- Act as a key liaison between HSN and regional digital governance bodies to ensure coordinated planning, shared priorities, and effective change management.
- Collaborate with shared service organizations and regional partners to resolve site-specific digital needs, workflow challenges, or data quality issues.
- Promote a culture of digital literacy, quality awareness, and data-informed decision-making by embedding best practices in digital optimization and quality improvement across clinical teams.
- Support accreditation readiness for digital systems, data quality, and quality improvement processes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and reporting expectations.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in EMR optimization, digital system quality improvement, and health informatics and apply learnings to enhance patient care and staff experience.
- Evaluate the impact and sustainability of digital interventions, including benefit realization, end-user feedback, and outcome tracking.
- Escalate strategic or systemic barriers to the Director for resolution or governance action and ensure timely attention to high-impact issues.
- Provide functional guidance, subject matter expertise, and leadership to the Clinical Informatics and Applications team, influencing priorities, guiding best practices, and ensuring alignment with digital transformation objectives.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in the accreditation process and work to ensure that the program and HSN achieve, maintain and continually improve upon their accredited status.
- Teach, coach and lead staff in the development and monitoring of quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
- Engage in and foster professional development of all staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required on incidents.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/organizations/community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Health Informatics, Quality Improvement, Health Administration, or a related field from an accredited university.
- Master’s Degree or enrollment in a Master’s program (e.g. Health Administration, Informatics or Health Care Quality) from an accredited university is preferred.
- Certification in process improvement or quality methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, Lean Green/Black Belt) is preferred.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a healthcare setting with a focus in informatics, quality improvement, or clinical system implementation.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a project manager, team lead, or quality improvement leadership role.
- Experience supporting EMR optimization, quality improvement initiatives, and performance measurement is required.
