KEY FUNCTION

Analyze and reconcile accounts and data for accuracy and integrity to assist management and accountants with producing quality data for financial statements.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Manager, Financial Planning and Program Support.

 

DUTIES

  1. Provide comprehensive financial and statistical analysis, including benchmarking and comparative data.
  2. Provide support to management and the accountants as required.
  3. Provide support to accountants during the Budgeting and Forecasting processes.
  4. Oversee bank and accounting reconciliation in a timely manner.
  5. Provide financial support in special projects as required.
  6. Provide ad-hoc data analysis as required.
  7. Track and reconcile various revenues with the Ministry of Health (MOH) as required.
  8. Prepare monthly and year-end working papers and financial statements.
  9. Draft monthly and year-end working papers to be reviewed by the accountants.
  10. Provide coaching to junior accountants and finance clerks as required.
  11. Provide finance-related services to HSN and other organizations as required.
  12. Prepare journal entries in accordance with monthly timelines.
  13. Provide assurance and integrity for data quality.
  14. Provide reconciliation for HSN in regards to case costing data.
  15. Provide detailed analysis for HSN in regards to Quality-Based Procedures (QBP) Funding.
  16. Provide quarterly reporting to internal departments and external agencies.
  17. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  18. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  19. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  20. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  21. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Accounting, from an accredited college.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university is preferred.
  3. Enrolled in a professional accounting designation program as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required.
  4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of three (3) years’ financial experience and/or experience working in a Finance department within a health care environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Management Information Systems (MIS) Guideline and the Ontario Healthcare Reporting System.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of financial and accounting concepts.
  3. Demonstrated technical skills.
  4. Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
  5. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  6. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  7. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook and patient information systems (e.g. Meditech).
  8. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  10. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

  1. Successful Criminal Record Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is required.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.

  5. Demonstrated positive work record and excellent attendance record.
  6. Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
  7. Ability to travel between local sites.
