KEY FUNCTION

Assist in the administration and research of best practices in the field of Human Resources (HR) as they relate primarily to labour relations, compensation, disability management and recruitment.

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Director, Human Resources and the technical guidance of HR Leadership.

 

DUTIES

  1. Assist in the research of HR best practices, employment legislation and case law.
  2. Assist the development of policies and procedures, grievance responses, collective bargaining documentation, reference documents and other related documents as required.
  3. Assist in the development of Standards of Work (SoW) and process mapping.
  4. Develop recruitment plans for hard to recruit positions and implement advertising.
  5. Support the recruitment process, review candidate applications and prepare correspondence.
  6. Process grievance settlements and arbitration awards.
  7. Compile data for monthly, annual or adhoc statistical reporting and analyze data as required.
  8. Update various metrics associated with the different specialty areas within HR.
  9. Assist in the creation and revision of job descriptions, and participate in the job evaluation/pay equity maintenance process as required.
  10. Gather and compile documents, and assist in the completion of various surveys.
  11. Review injury reports and gather missing information from managers in order to develop the appropriate documentation to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) as required.
  12. Provide administrative support (i.e. compose confidential correspondence, prepare and distribute communiques, log grievances, scan or file documents, create forms and reports, etc.).
  13. Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, take detailed meeting minutes and ensure follow-up of assigned action items as required.
  14. Complete various ad hoc projects within the labour relations, compensation, disability management and recruitment specialty areas.
  15. Process departmental invoices as required.
  16. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  17. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  18. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  19. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  20. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in a Business or Human Resources Management field, from an accredited college.
  2. Must be applying for employment in the HR field of study for the first time.
  3. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.  
  4. Must be working towards or has a current Certificate as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP).
  5. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Recent and relevant experience working in a unionized environment is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant HR legislation and regulations.
  2. Demonstrated ability to analyze and convert data into useful information for decision-making.
  3. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  5. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  6. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  8. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
