KEY FUNCTION:
Transcribe cardiodiagnostic and respiratory studies, letters and other correspondence from verbal or recorded dictation resulting in prompt treatment and/or discharge of patients.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Sudbury Cardiac Outpatient Centre.
DUTIES:
- Transcribe cardiodiagnostic tests and cardiac clinic consultations.
- Transfer information from technicians’ worksheets using a multitude of templates designed specifically for each individual study.
- Provide verbal or transcribed reports for physicians and clinics as required.
- Inquire into discrepancies and/or request clarification of the dictated report with the dictating physician.
- Verify demographics, physicians, lab work and diagnostic procedures included in reports using Meditech.
- Answer phone, fax reports, create labels for mailing and file, store, and dispose of confidential files as required.
- Search for studies requested and contact appropriate physician to have study read.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Participate in hospital training as required.
- Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a one (1) year Diploma in a Medical Office Administration field, from an accredited college.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of six (6) months recent relevant dictatypist experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge Medical Terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 60 w.p.m.
- Demonstrated ability to transcribe using a computerized dictation system.
- Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
