Purpose:

Support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice.  Provide leadership, staff support, coordination and oversight to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed care by promoting, developing and implementing evidence-based practice in alignment with the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centres (ONSADVTC). Act as a role model in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and HSN’s Mission, Vision, and Values in both formal and informal learning environments.

 

Standard Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSc(N) from an accredited university.
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support  (BCLS) certificate is required.
  • Current Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate is required.
  • Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner SANE-A Certification is required
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
  • Successful Vulnerable Sector Check is required

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years, full-time equivalent clinical experience, within the last eight (8) years in any acute and/or mental health nursing related areas.
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent experience working as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.
  • Recent relevant experience in adult and pediatric teaching within the past five (5) years.
  • Recent experience in the application of Best Practice Guidelines to the care of patients.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects is preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise as an educator using the principles of adult learning.
  • Demonstrated clinical excellence through the integration of practice standards for Forensic Nursing and evidence based practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the prophylactic medications as they relate to sexually transmitted diseases. 
  • Demonstrated ability to complete a thorough physical assessment and recognize deviations of the normal.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical education methodologies and assessment instruments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts, regulations, legislation and standards related to Occupational Health and Safety in the hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated strong organization skills with the ability to manage a diversified workload, rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  • Demonstrated high levels of initiative, self-direction and an innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated skills in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities and making evaluative judgements.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

 

Preference Given to:

  • Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing or actively pursuing a Master’s is preferred.
  • Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner SANE-P Certification is preferred.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects is preferred.
