Purpose:

The NICU Nurse Clinician will develop, coordinate and implement clinical education and training within the NICU in keeping with the family-centered care philosophy and support other inpatient and outpatient components of the program. Support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice. Act as a role model in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and HSN’s Mission, Vision and Values in both formal and informal learning environments.

 

Standard Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSc(N) from an accredited university.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support BCLS.
  • Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • Current certification in Paediatric Advanced Life Support PALS.
  • Current certification in all of the required skills for NICU, including but not limited to:
    • Admissions
    • Breastfeeding Level 1 and 2
    • Central Venous Line Management
    • Charge Duties
    • Conscious Sedation Management
    • CPAP Management
    • Hyperbilirubinemia Management
    • Hypoglycemia Management
    • Lumbar Puncture Assists
    • Mechanical Ventilation
    • Medications Below the Drip Chamber
    • Microcapillary Blood Collection
    • NAS
    • Nasogastric Intubation and Gavage Feeding
    • Pain Assessment and Management in the Neonate
    • TPN Management
  • Criminal record check satisfactory to the Hospital.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent experience in NICU, within the past 8 years.
  • Recent relevant experience in adult teaching within the past 5 years

 

General Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills in change management.
  • Demonstrated skills as an adult educator as well as coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in program and project evaluation.
  • Demonstrated high levels of initiative, self-direction and an innovative approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively motivate and lead staff to work as an effective team to reach optimum results.
  • Demonstrated coordination and networking skills.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in a clear, concise manner considering intended audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze problems systemically, organize information, identify key details and factors, identify underlying causes and generate options and solutions.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office software, Meditech Expanse, BORN Ontario

 

Preference Given to:

  • Candidates with successful completion of a Masters of Science in Nursing or agreement to pursue. 
  • Graduate from an approved Perinatal, Pediatric or Neonatal Nursing Certificate Program.
