Purpose:

The Nurse Clinician will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing comprehensive teaching programs for the nursing staff.  The Nurse Clinician will maintain standardization and quality performance of patient care related to nephrology.  The Nurse Clinician will participate in hospital committees and be a liaison for a multi-disciplinary team, keeping open lines of communication with all staff.

 

Standard Qualifications:

  • A graduate from an approved Bachelor of Science Nursing Program BSc(N) or equivalent degree with a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario  

 

Required qualifications:

  • Current certification in basic cardiac life support bcls
  • Current certification in automated external defibrillator aed
  • Current hemodialysis certification

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years full-time equivalent experience in nephrology (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) in the last 5 years
  • Demonstrated experience (within the last 2 years) in a nephrology setting in a supervisory or charge role

 

General skills:

  • Demonstrated clinical competence of nursing practice and leadership abilities
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a high paced  inter-disciplinary team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; maintenance of positive patient/staff relations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving skills and organizational skills
  • Possess a high level of self-esteem and confidence, be flexible and creative
  • Proven ability to manage change and quality improvement initiatives in a positive manner
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and precept staff with knowledge of adult learning styles
  • Demonstrated understanding of organizational structure and function
  • Demonstrated experience with conflict resolution
  • Computer skills including microsoft office software, meditech Expanse, cyberren
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Northern Ontario
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable vehicle.

 

Preference Given to:

  • Candidates with successful completion of a Masters of Science in Nursing or agreement to pursue 
  • Successful completion of  the Canadian Nurses Association’s certification in Nephrology Nursing CNeph
