KEY FUNCTION:

Assist the Perfusionists in the delivery of the services provided, including data entry, inventory management, hemodynamic and blood gas monitoring, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and autotransfusion.

 

REPORTING:

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Cardiodiagnostics and Perfusion.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Collect statistical information and supply management, including data entry.
  2. Assemble monitoring lines and monitor setup
  3. Assist with thermodilution catheter insertion.
  4. Perform quality control on blood gas machines and automated coagulation timer machines.
  5. Assist with generating requisitions in Meditech pertaining to Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB).
  6. Assist with the insertion, maintenance and transfer of patients with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP); Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), ECMO.
  7. Assist with assembly and disassembly of the heart-lung machine.
  8. Assist Anesthetist with the transportation of patients post operatively.
  9. Perform auto transfusion procedures.
  10. Perform blood gas analysis and Activated Clotting Times (ACT).
  11. Participate in maintenance and cleaning of Perfusion related equipment.
  12. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  13. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  14. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
  15. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  16. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  17. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  18. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  1. Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Respiratory Therapy, from an accredited college or equivalent.
  2. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) or equivalent.
  3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a clinical Hospital setting.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of Electrocardiograph (ECG) interpretation.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring.
  3. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  5. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  6. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  8. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
