KEY FUNCTION

Provide assessment, consultation, and therapy to children who present a variety of motor challenges.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Children’s Treatment Centre.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Perform detailed, comprehensive medical history and physical assessment of clients to establish and communicate a physiotherapy diagnosis and prognosis.
  2. Initiate and execute all physiotherapy treatments related to the clinical impression to deliver client care within various programs, and perform on-going evaluations to determine when discharge from service is appropriate.
  3. Provide supervision and direction to Physiotherapy Assistants (PTA) and assigned support personnel as required in accordance with the standards defined by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO).
  4. Document assessment in the client chart, clinical impression, and all related physiotherapy intervention and client outcomes; maintain an accepted standard of documentation for quality assurance as outlined by HSN policies and the CPO.
  5. Communicate verbally or through written reports with other health care professionals regarding client management for clinical problem-solving and program development.
  6. Act as a professional resource for internal health care providers and community partners.
  7. Provide theoretical and clinical education/supervision to physiotherapy students and undergraduate students.
  8. Adhere to the CPO Standards for Continuing Competence, including the ongoing development of a professional portfolio that contains practice reflection, guided self-assessment, inventory of education activities, and setting professional development goals.
  9. Participate in therapy, team meetings, and on committees, including Professional Council meetings, regarding the development of policies and procedures, forms and audits, and coverage/vacation planning within the professional discipline.
  10. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  11. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  12. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  13. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  14. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  15. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the CPO.
  2. Additional specialized training may be required depending on caseload and patient population (e.g. Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorizer or rostering with the CPO for the Authorized Acts of Suctioning and Administration of Oxygen).
  3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of six (6) months’ experience working in evidenced-based approach to service delivery.
  2. Experience working in a Pediatric department within a health care environment is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise, and mentor students and support personnel.
  2. Demonstrated current knowledge of trends in pediatrics general health care and community resources.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  4. Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
  5. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  6. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  7. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  8. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
  10. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

  10. Ability to travel between local sites.
  11. Valid driver’s license with access to reliable vehicle.
  12. Willingness to travel occasionally within Northern Ontario.
