Additional Info:               Casual Part-Time with Commitment/Standby/On-Call

                                         (24 hour Standby/On-call requirement) Shifts: Monday to Sunday shifts as 

                                         scheduled – must be available for a minimum of 45 hours/month.

 

Due to the uniqueness of this on-call opportunity, in addition to taking on this role, successful applicants will be permitted to maintain their current HSN full-or part-time position.

 

Purpose: With minimal supervision, provide emergency services to both adult and paediatric survivors of acute sexual assault and domestic violence. Conduct physical assessment, provide crisis counselling, referral and safe discharge planning. Administer the collection of medical tests and forensic evidence, including a visual speculum examination and the use of a medscope.  Must be cognisant of the prophylactic medications as they relate to sexually transmitted diseases.  Participate in community based education and training, ongoing best practice initiatives and research.

 

Standard Qualifications:

  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A graduate from an approved School of Nursing (university or community college) with a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support BCLS.
  • Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner SANE-A Certification.
  • Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner SANE-P or must be obtained within one (1) year.
  • Criminal record check satisfactory to the Hospital.
  • A valid driver’s license with access to vehicle.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years full-time equivalent experience (within the last 5 years) in any acute care and/or mental health nursing related areas.
  • Proven ability to complete a thorough physical assessment and recognize deviations of the normal.
  • Proven ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects.

 

General Skills:

  • Therapeutic patient teaching/communication skills with children, adolescence and adults.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to critical think and problem-solve.
  • willingness to learn and work in a sensitive, non-judgmental capacity
  • Ability to respond within 45 minutes of an emergency call.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with other providers and agencies to deliver coordinated care.
  • Ability to work in a minimally or unsupervised capacity.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office software, Meditech Client Service OE, and GRASP software.

 

Preference Given to:

  • SANE-A certification is a must. SANE-P Certification is preferred.
  • Candidates with additional training in Forensics and/or Forensic Nursing.
  • Current certification in Non Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Demonstrated understanding of an anti-oppression analysis of domestic violence and sexual assault.

 

French Language Service (FLS) Designation:

Bilingualism requirements will be posted in accordance with the FLS Designation Plan.  If a position is designated bilingual and no bilingual candidates (both internal and external) meet the qualifications, unilingual candidates may be considered.
