Purpose:
Provide full time nursing services for the communities of Attawapiskat and Fort Albany, Ontario. Provide assigned patients with a high degree of individualized, effective, and ethical nursing care, utilizing advanced education, expert clinical skills and practice and work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and educate patients on their illness and condition.
Standard Qualifications:
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing (university or community college).
- Current certificate of competence in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Required Qualifications:
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Electrocardiogram (ECG) Level I and II, Peripheral Intravenous Initiation and maintenance, and Life Saving Drugs is required
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ full-time equivalent experience, within the last three (3) years in an acute care area.\

- Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively make decisions, deploy critical thinking and problem solving skills to organize/prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated strong therapeutic communication skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear, concise manner, considering the intended audience.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as interdependently.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Proven knowledge of the functional organization of the hospital and community agencies in providing care to the patient.
- Demonstrated ability to provide full-age spectrum care and liaise with other programs and care providers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of different patient care delivery trends.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
- Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with healthcare providers and patients.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated good attendance record.
- Demonstrated positive performance record and the ability to meet the job expectations and performance standards required of this position.
- Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
Preference Given to:
- Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) is preferred.
- Emergency and/or critical care nursing is preferred.
- Rural and remote nursing experience is preferred.
French Language Service (FLS) Designation:
Bilingualism requirements will be posted in accordance with the FLS Designation Plan. If a position is designated bilingual and no bilingual candidates (both internal and external) meet the qualifications, unilingual candidates may be considered.
