KEY FUNCTION:
Monitor, manage, and report de-identified data to the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database with information from the electronic medical record ensuring data integrity.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the CQI Manager, Surgical.
DUTIES:
1. Review, collect, submit and analyze reliable, complete and timely data into designated web databases.
2. Contact patients and/or families for 30-day post-operative and long-term follow-up for data collection purposes.
3. Utilize software applications for data collection and analysis to ensure timely and accurate entry of data, establishing effective working relationships with relevant members in the hospital community.
4. Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff across the surgical program and National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects as required.
5. Monitor and report key performance indicators.
6. Evaluate and share quality improvement lessons and solutions with networks of colleagues across the province.
7. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
8. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
9. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
10. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
11. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in a science or health/business administration field, from an accredited university or recognized equivalent.
2. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the applicable regulatory college (e.g. Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) or equivalent is preferred.
3. Successful completion of the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) training modules and certification examination is required.
4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working within a health care environment.
2. One (1) to two (2) years’ of related experience in clinical research, medical records, a hospital surgery department or surgery clinic is preferred.
3. Quality improvement experience is preferred.
4. Experience with clinical data entry and clinical data collection is preferred.

3. Demonstrated team building skills with ability to lead, motivate and teach others using the principles of adult learning.
4. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
5. Knowledge of basic statistics.
6. Knowledge of medical terminology.
7. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
8. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
9. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
10. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
11. Effective time management and problem solving skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
12. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
13. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
