Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Systems Analyst - Imaging and Medical System Integration to deliver innovative, reliable and secure information technology services to support the computing environments including Health Care Information System (HCIS), Imaging and Medical Equipment integration to the HCIS.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in a Computer Science field, from an accredited college. Microsoft MCP Certification or equivalent advanced level certification is preferred. We are looking for someone with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an IT department within a health care environment or similar large-scale IT environment.
Candidates that possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience supporting AGFA PACS / Enterprise Imaging platforms is preferred.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Information Technology Infrastructure Team is a dynamic group, supporting HSN's evolving hardware needs while overseeing the design, deployment, and management of critical clinical and business platforms.
The Team encompasses three defined support groups: Server / Storage, Networking and Imaging and Medical Systems Integration

KEY FUNCTION:
Deliver innovative, reliable and secure information technology services to support the computing environments including Health Care Information System (HCIS), Imaging and Medical Equipment integration to the HCIS.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, IT Infrastructure.
DUTIES:
- Coordinate and participate in the successful selection, analysis, design, planning, risk assessment, implementation, training, maintenance, support, and upgrade of the Information Technology (IT) and clinical and imaging systems using best practice project methods.
- In collaboration with IT services (e.g. eHealth Ontario), respond to incidents related to IT service interruptions at the local, regional and provincial level.
- Manage IT components of medical information systems across multiple sites.
- Assist clinicians in the safe and effective use of Information and Medical Technology platforms related to IT.
- Provide technical support and maintenance of medical systems in high risk patient care areas.
- Develop methods to monitor issues that may impact patient care and identify and implement opportunities for efficiencies (e.g. Radiologist workstation, Barco monitors, dictation hardware, and Impax workflows).
- Document and monitor events, logs, and backups, and manage all server and network related support issues.
- Work collaboratively with technology vendors to research, recommend and implement successful technical solutions and investigate new technology as required.
- Coordinate support from other IT teams, HSN programs, vendors or hospital partners as required.
- Develop strategies and follow government body and organizational policies to ensure data is private, confidential, and protected.
- Research, develop and implement procedures and technologies to protect the security of hospital information systems and information assets.
- Provide hospital wide, on-call coverage for problems and serious issues after hours and on weekends according to scheduled rotation.
- Manage third party contracts (e.g. negotiations, RFP’s, renewals and generation of purchasing documentation).
- Participate in planning related to the future direction of various IT systems/platforms and investigate new technologies and their potential for application at HSN.
- Design, develop, implement and test technology resiliency solutions and contingency plans.
- Maintain an advanced level of understanding of server, network and workstation technologies, the HCIS and its relationship to other information systems, HCIS integration systems and clinical and financial applications.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on (including chairing) regional committees and meetings to advance technology standards within the North Eastern Ontario Network (NEON) and across other hospital partnerships.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in a Computer Science field, from an accredited college.
- Microsoft MCP Certification or equivalent advanced level certification is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an IT department within a health care environment or similar large-scale IT environment.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in an IT customer service end-user support role.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience supporting AGFA PACS / Enterprise Imaging platforms is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of the server, network and workstation technologies of the HCIS, its relationship to other internal and external information systems, HCIS integration systems, and clinical and financial applications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical systems and clinical workflows across clinical programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of networking, enterprise storage, and server virtualization technologies and Windows operating systems.
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of one or more of the following enterprise technologies: Medical Applications (e.g. AGFA Medical Products (IMPAX, Talk, Audit Manager), Hermes NC Med, Terarecon, Storz Integration, Holter, PaceArt, Meditech, Gearview (VC, PACSscan), Biztalk Integration, Philips IBE), Medical Interfacing (e.g. Biztalk, AGFA Connectivity Manager, Philips IntelliBridge Enterprise), Medical Data Protocols (e.g. HL7, DICOM), Operating Systems (e.g. Solaris 10, Linux (Oracle, RedHat, CentOS), Netapp Data ONTAP), Storage (e.g. IBM Netapps, Dell Storage Array), Load Balancing (e.g. Citrix Netscaler, Kemp), and Medical Equipment (Storz Integration, Ion Torrent and Illumina gene sequencers, GE, Philips Holter, Philips Event Management System, Philips OBTV, Siemens diagnostic imaging equipment).
- Ability to manage third party support contracts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diverse medical research modalities in the support of the acquisition, processing, storage and display of research data.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects in a complex working environment using Project Management Principles and the ability to analyze and manage critical incidents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of BMC Remedy software and IT Infrastructure Library methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to research and develop new service offerings to support new opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience writing design and technical documents (e.g. Visio drawings, process documents, and briefing notes).
- Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate IT security and controls to ensure the confidentiality, privacy, integrity, availability and authorized use of information assets.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
