KEY FUNCTION:
Ensure proper procedures with respect to all aspects of Environmental Services (EVS), safety, and the Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committees (PIDAC) best practices are followed by EVS staff.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Support Services.
DUTIES:
- Oversee Support Services activities.
- Align staff assignments and manage additional resource needs as required.
- Provide positive reinforcement to staff, ensure PIDAC/best practice EVS compliance, minimal lift compliance and direct work.
- Liaise with other departments to maintain good working relationships.
- Work collaboratively with contracted linen provider on linen quotas, inventory, deliveries, and pick-ups.
- Conduct various audits for the program and/or department as required (e.g. daily visual and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) inspections).
- Oversee departmental projects and align staff as required.
- Provide input to the Manager about ongoing improvements to the department; implement improvements and resolutions as required.
- Lead training for new hires and ensure staff are in compliance with required training modules (e.g. 3 Common MSDs); record staff training in the Education Portal.
- Follow-up on and resolve any departmental complaints and concerns.
- Enforce policies and procedures with staff and quality assurance.
- Input maintenance work orders as required.
- Input weekly orders for departmental supplies via Meditech.
- Ensure policies/procedures are current and up to date.
- Work collaboratively on the development and administration of department contracts.
- Assist manager with departmental scheduling.
- Assist manager with bi-weekly payroll as per HSN standards and procedures.
- Oversee the work of others in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations, and HSN policies.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in a related field, from an accredited college.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a Support Services department within a health care or public environment.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY:
