KEY FUNCTION:
Apply knowledge of the Central Intake E-solution and other related booking guidelines to route requests for medical procedures or tests to the appropriate destination within the Ontario Health North East Region. Perform a range of other administrative duties to support the operations of the unit.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging (Special Projects).
DUTIES:
1. Register patients and schedule appointments for the Central Intake North East HUB.
2. Answer and screen phone calls; relay messages and provide general information as required.
3. Type and photocopy routine correspondence.
4. Process patient report sheets for respective tests.
5. Retrieve, file, and index patient reports and documentation.
6. Maintain files and complete various forms (e.g. shipping orders and purchase requisitions).
7. Maintain inventory and order office supplies as required.
8. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
9. Participate in hospital training as required.
10. Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
11. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of six (6) months’ recent and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of, and proficiency in, Medical Terminology.
2. Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 words for minute.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in data entry and familiarity with computerized Patient Information Systems.
4. Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.
5. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families, and healthcare workers.
6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks.
8. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
