KEY FUNCTION:
Create compelling content that informs, inspires, and engages diverse audiences. Focus on telling HSN’s story through innovative and high-quality content across digital, social, and traditional platforms and reinforce the organization’s mission and values. Collaborate with teams across HSN to uncover powerful narratives that elevate the hospital’s reputation and connect with key stakeholders.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Strategic Internal and External Communications Lead, Communications, Branding and Marketing.
DUTIES:
- Create and deliver a wide variety of content using innovative approaches, (e.g., articles, blogs, media releases, videos, photography, and infographics) tailored to showcase and promote HSN’s brand, programs, services, people and commitment to excellence.
- Work with HSN’s Foundation to help develop donor impact reports, stewardship reports, and other documents.
- Actively seek out and collaborate with frontline staff, leadership, and patients to identify meaningful narratives; craft content that highlight achievements, milestones, and impactful stories and HSN’s mission and values for diverse audiences.
- Translate complex or technical information (e.g. medical advancements, research projects, and healthcare policies) into clear, relatable, and compelling narratives suitable for a general audience.
- Foster strong working relationships with internal stakeholders to maintain a steady pipeline of story ideas and content opportunities.
- Tailor content to fit different platforms and formats to ensure maximum engagement and reach across HSN’s communication channels (e.g., website, social media, internal newsletters, and external publications).
- Leverage digital tools and multimedia techniques ( e.g., video production, interactive infographics, and dynamic photography) to create effective content.
- Align all content with HSN’s visual identity, voice, and messaging guidelines to maintain a cohesive brand presence.
- Develop templates, guides, and resources that empower other staff members to contribute stories and ideas.
- Collaborate with Communication team members and colleagues on storytelling best practices to strengthen HSN’s overall narrative consistency and impact.
- Develop source documentation for corporate material.
- Contribute to the development of HSN’s content strategy and identify trends and opportunities to enhance storytelling.
- Ensure all content complies with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and French Language Services (FLS) Act.
- Track and analyze content performance using digital analytics tools; provide regular reports on content engagement and effectiveness and offer recommendations for improvement.
- Support internal and external events through content creation.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field from an accredited College.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in content creation, storytelling, or related roles.
- Experience in healthcare storytelling or content creation for public sector organizations is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated proficiency in digital tools and platforms (e.g. social media, content management systems (CMS), and analytics software).
- Demonstrated advanced skills in multimedia production including video editing, photography, and graphic design (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written and multimedia content.
- Demonstrated strong project management skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility standards under Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and bilingual communication requirements under French Language Services (FLS) Act.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
PERSONAL SUITABILITY:
- Successful Criminal Record Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is required.
