Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Coordinator, Mobile Health Unit to Lead the planning, operations, and logistics of a mobile health unit delivering breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screening across North Eastern Ontario. Ensure equitable access to screening and health services for underserved, remote, and Indigenous communities, promoting early detection and improved health outcomes by offering complementary health services at the direction of individual communities in alignment with local health communities. Oversee the deployment of the unit, collaborate with healthcare providers and community partners, and ensure the seamless integration of mobile screening results into follow-up care pathways.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g. Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, Social Work), from an accredited college/university. We are looking for someone with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in health program coordination, public health, health promotion, or a related field. Candidates that possess experience working with Indigenous communities and/or mobile healthcare delivery are preferred.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The North East Regional Cancer Program, in partnership with Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) oversees the delivery of cancer screening services in Northeastern Ontario.
Many types of cancer are preventable, and early detection of some cancers can improve your chances of recovery. Organized cancer screening programs may find cancer earlier, leading to better health outcomes. Cancer screening can find cancer early when there is a better chance of treating it successfully. Even if you feel well, it is important to get screened. Screening is for people who do not have any cancer symptoms.

KEY FUNCTION:
Lead the planning, operations, and logistics of a mobile health unit delivering breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screening across North Eastern Ontario. Ensure equitable access to screening and health services for underserved, remote, and Indigenous communities, promoting early detection and improved health outcomes by offering complementary health services at the direction of individual communities in alignment with local health communities. REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Cancer Screening.
DUTIES:
1. Develop and implement a strategic plan for the mobile heath unit to maximize reach and efficiency in delivering cancer screening and complementary health services.
2. Coordinate schedules and routes, ensuring accessibility for remote and underserved communities.
3. Collaborate with Indigenous leaders, healthcare providers, and community partners to tailor services to meet local needs; determine additional complementary health service based on community priorities.
4. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the mobile health unit, including staffing, scheduling, and equipment maintenance.
5. Ensure compliance with healthcare standards, infection control protocols, and safety regulations.
6. Develop and maintain operational policies and procedures for mobile unit functions.
7. Facilitate culturally safe cancer screening services in collaboration with Indigenous health organizations.
8. Work closely with healthcare organizations and professionals to integrate screening results into patient follow-up care pathways.
9. Promote awareness and education about cancer screening and health services within communities.
10. Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, tracking key performance indicators.
11. Prepare reports for provincial and regional partners, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement.
12. Manage data collection in compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.
13. Identify gaps in service delivery and develop solutions for continuous improvement.
14. Provide guidance on cultural competency and best practices in mobile healthcare delivery.
15. Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies and medical directives in collaboration with healthcare partners.
16. Participate in committees and meetings relevant to mobile health initiatives.
17. Manage human resources which include: recruitment, selection and training.
18. Guide, motivate, monitor and supervise staff, develop standards of performance, evaluate performance and make recommendations on disciplinary action as required.
19. Develop annual budgets and assume fiscal accountability of the departmental operation according to approved budget.
20. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
21. Participate in the accreditation process and work to ensure that the program and HSN achieve, maintain and continually improve upon their accredited status.
22. Teach, coach and lead staff in the development and monitoring of quality indicators and improvement initiatives.
23. Engage in and foster professional development of all staff and provide opportunities for learning within budgeted resources.
24. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors; investigate report, debrief and take or direct corrective action as required on incidents.
25. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders/organizations/community groups to achieve program objectives, integrate and link services and foster partnerships across the continuum of service delivery.
26. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
27. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
28. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare-related field (e.g. Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, Social Work), from an accredited college/university.
2. A Master’s Degree from an accredited university is preferred.
3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in health program coordination, public health, health promotion, or a related field.
1. Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or mobile healthcare delivery is preferred.
2. Demonstrated experience in project management, operations, or quality improvement initiatives in healthcare settings.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated understanding of cancer screening guidelines and healthcare system navigation in Ontario.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous health frameworks, cultural safety principles, and engagement strategies.

15. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
16. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
