KEY FUNCTION:
Organize equipment and provide inventory control of direct purchases and supplies on the Surgical Inpatient Units.

 

REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Surgical Inpatient Unit.

 

DUTIES:
1. Participate in inventory control procedures and order verifications as required.
2. Order and restock direct purchases and department supplies as required.

3. Monitor and restock Sterile Processing Department inventory.
4. Monitor and restock nurse servers as required.
5. Enter requisitions for maintenance of equipment or building services.

6. Porter equipment and specimens as required.
7. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
8. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.

9. Participate in hospital training as required.
10. Assist in improvement initiatives as required.
11. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).

2. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is preferred.
3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:
1. One (1) year experience working within a health care environment is preferred.
2. Inventory control and purchasing experience is preferred.

3. Experience handling and transporting medical equipment and supplies, laboratory samples and medical gases is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of the Critical Care environment.
2. Demonstrated ability to transport patients using stretchers, wheelchairs and other transporting equipment.

3. Demonstrated ability to safely handle lifting 18 kilograms, pushing, pulling equipment/carts.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of medical asepsis and medical supplies is preferred.
5. Demonstrated computer skills with intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and applicable patient information systems.

6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Ability to prioritize tasks.
8. Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.

9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
