KEY FUNCTION

Ensure the safe and effective operation of hemodialysis equipment and facilities and other related biomedical equipment.  Conduct quality control checks, maintain accurate records and collaborate with clinical staff to ensure the equipment meets health and safety regulations and patient comfort standards.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, In-Centre Dialysis & Regional Renal Program Data and Reporting.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Maintain, repair and troubleshoot hemodialysis machines and water treatment systems for the In-Centre and Satellite Hemodialysis units.
  2. Support clinical staff with the operation of dialysis equipment and dialysis related equipment.
  3. Support home hemodialysis patients and staff with the training and operation of hemodialysis machines and water treatment systems.
  4. Perform and maintain accurate records of dialysis water sampling and quality control checks.
  5. Prepare and dismantle hemodialysis equipment for acute dialysis treatments.
  6. Perform and keep record of the preventative maintenance of equipment.
  7. Monitor and submit equipment hours to the Ontario Renal Network (ORN) database.
  8. Update and maintain the travel book log sheets.
  9. Repair and maintain other unit specific equipment as required.
  10. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  11. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  12. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  13. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  14. Perform other duties as required.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in an Electronics Engineering, Dialysis Technology or Biomedical Engineering field, from an accredited college.
  2. Membership with the Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists, National Association of Nephrology Technicians/Technologists, or with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians/Technologists is preferred.
  3. Current factory training service course certificates for Dialysis Delivery System servicing is preferred.
  4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Recent dialysis experience is preferred within the last 12 months.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Current knowledge of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and other related safety standards/legislation as they apply to medical devices and systems used in Nephrology.
  2. Demonstrated teaching skills as patient training is involved.
  3. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  5. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  6. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  7. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
  8. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  9. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
