Purpose:
Reporting to the Hematology Charge & Senior MLTs, the successful applicant(s) will be required to work rotationally in the Hematology and Flow Cytometry area. The successful candidate will be responsible to operate the Flow Cytometer and automated Pipettor and work closely with the Hematopathologists.
Education and Training:
- Graduate of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program including specialty of Hematology
- Demonstrated current professional registration and licensure with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) to include the appropriate specialties
- Current WHMIS certification and Mask Fit
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required
Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years MLT, ongoing Core Hematology and Flow Cytometry experience.
Knowledge/Skills.Ability:
- Demonstrated ability to verify relevant data pertaining to Hematology and ensure that appropriate specimens are procured according to established protocols
- Demonstrated knowledge in the application of the principles of microscopy to laboratory analyses as they apply to the Hematology department
- Demonstrated knowledge in cell morphology with the strong ability to distinguish between normal and abnormal cells
- Demonstrated ability to recognize, troubleshoot and communicate equipment/reagent related malfunctions and initiate appropriate remedial action
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze QC findings for the purposes of quality control and verification of performance, and implement corrective action when required
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals
- Demonstrated proficiency in data entry and working knowledge of computerized
- patient information systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of medical laboratory sciences basing practice on current techniques and scientific knowledge

- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
- Strong evidence in acquiring and maintaining education related to the areas of Hematology/morphology/coagulation/flow cytometry
