KEY FUNCTION:
Deliver organized breast cancer screening services to eligible clients across North Eastern Ontario (e.g. rural, remote, and Indigenous communities) through a mobile unit. Perform high-quality mammographic imaging in accordance with the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) standards, while providing patient-centered care, education, and support within a multidisciplinary team.

 

REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Mobile Health Unit and under the supervision of the Coordinator, Sudbury Breast Screening and Assessment Service.

 

DUTIES:
1. Adhere to the Standards of Practice as outlined by the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) and maintain active registration in good standing.
2. Maintain standards of patient care in accordance with Health Sciences North (HSN) policies, procedures, and professional practice expectations.
3. Ensure the safe and appropriate operation of mammography equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, hospital policy, and legislative standards.
4. Perform high-quality mammographic imaging in alignment with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) of the OBSP and departmental protocols.
5. Position clients and adjust equipment to obtain optimal diagnostic images, ensuring accuracy, safety, and patient comfort throughout the procedure.
6. Communicate effectively with clients to explain procedures, obtain ongoing informed consent, and provide reassurance and support during imaging.
7. Document client histories, including relevant medical, surgical, and breast health information, to support safe and accurate imaging practices.
8. Evaluate images for quality and diagnostic accuracy; repeat or adjust exposures as required and document accordingly.
9. Perform and document routine quality control procedures, troubleshoot equipment or procedural issues, and coordinate service as required to ensure optimal functionality.
10. Adhere to radiation safety principles (e.g. ALARA) and comply with all applicable legislation, standards, and departmental policies.
11. Follow infection prevention and control protocols to maintain a safe and clean clinical environment.
12. Maintain accurate, timely documentation and records in accordance with departmental and organizational standards.
13. Ensure compliance with the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR) Mammography Accreditation Program (MAP), including quality assurance, equipment testing, and certification requirements.
14. Maintain confidentiality of client information in accordance with privacy legislation and organizational policies.
15. Work within a mobile clinic environment (i.e. safe setup, operation, and teardown of imaging equipment and clinical space).
16. Participate in extended regional travel and flexible scheduling (i.e.,multi-day tours, evenings, weekends) as required.
17. Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to support coordinated, patient-centered care and screening pathways.
18. Provide navigation and coordination for clients participating in breast screening programs (i.e. OBSP).
19. Collaborate with Indigenous leaders and healthcare providers to implement screening programs (e.g. mobile cancer screening) for rural and remote communities.
20. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
21. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
22. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
23. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
24. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
25. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of an Advanced Diploma in Radiography, from an accredited college.
2. Current Certificate of Registration with the CMRITO is required.
3. Successful completion of Breast Imaging 1 (formerly Mammography 1) and Breast Imaging 2 (formerly Mammography 2) courses required.
4. Imaging Breast Pathology, Certificate in Breast Imaging-Diagnosis (CBID) and Certificate in Breast-Imaging – Screening (CBIS) are preferred.
5. Current Certificate of Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is preferred.
6. Current certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) are required.
7. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working as an MRT in a Mammography (i.e. OBSP) department within a heath care environment.
2. Indigenous lived experience and facilitation experience is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of operating mammography equipment with strong problem solving skils and ability to handle equipment related challenges.
2. Demonstated knowledge of positioning protocols and standards, with strong attention to detail and ability to ensure high quality images.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze data for the purposes of quality control, verification of test results, and implement corrective action as required.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety, protocols and protection regulations.
6. Demonstrated ability to work independently.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of traditional medicines, traditional healing, ceremonies and cultural teachings.
8. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
9. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
10. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems (e.g. Meditech Expanse, ICMS).
11. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
12. Demonstrated effective time management and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload as required.
13. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
14. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
