Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Nuclear Medicine Technologist to perform Nuclear Cardiology Imaging procedures to provide quality clinical diagnostic information and services.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a three (3) year Advanced Diploma in Molecular Imaging, from an accredited college, or equivalent and current Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required. We are looking for someone with a minimum of (2) years of experience in a Nuclear Medicine department within a health care environment. Candidates that possess experience with Cardiac Nuclear Imaging, Philips Brightview equipment and cardiology is preferred. However, recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

KEY FUNCTION

Perform Nuclear Cardiology Imaging procedures to provide quality clinical diagnostic information and services.

 

REPORTING 

Under the direction of the Manager, Cardiodiagnostics and Perfusion.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Perform a range of tests and procedures as required.
  2. Provide safe and timely services while maximizing the potential of the equipment.
  3. Obtain informed consent and verify patient history and information.
  4. Maintain records and documentation according to department policy and procedures.
  5. Coordinate daily work schedule, prioritize emergency and add on cases as required.
  6. Perform all procedures in accordance with radiation safety practices, applicable legislation, clinical standards, and departmental policies and procedures to ensure personnel and patient safety.
  7. Adhere to the Standards of Practice as outlined by the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario.
  8. Troubleshoot equipment and/or procedure issues and contact appropriate service provider.
  9. Perform Radiopharmacy and Quality Control Procedures in the department.
  10. Assist with student education and evaluations as required.
  11. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  12. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  13. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  14. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  15. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  16. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  • Minimum of a three (3) year Advanced Diploma in Molecular Imaging, from an accredited college, or equivalent.
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
  • Current Certificate of Registration with Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is preferred.
  • Current Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) training certificate is preferred.
  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.


EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Nuclear Medicine department within a health care environment.
  • Experience in Cardiac Nuclear Imaging is preferred.
  • Experience with Philips Brightview equipment is preferred.
  • Experience in Cardiology is preferred.
  • Experience with Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT/CT) equipment is preferred.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT/CT) systems, Radiopharmacy, and Position Emission Tomography (PET/CT).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diagnostic equipment and problem solving skills relating to equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of positioning protocols and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform a range of diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of governmental regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety, protocols and protection regulations pertaining to nuclear substances and devices.
  • Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload as required.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
