Purpose:
Provide specialized assessment, treatment, and intervention for older adults with multiple complex health needs. Provide leadership and direction through implementation of education and training for the unit staff. Support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice.
Standard Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSc(N).
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate is required.
- Current Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certificate is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
- Successful vulnerable sector check is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years full-time equivalent clinical experience within the last eight (8) years.
- Experience within the last year in an inpatient setting is required.

- Demonstrated expertise as an educator using the principles of adult learning.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical education methodologies and assessment instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively make decisions, deploy critical thinking and other skills required to organize/prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated skills in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities and making evaluative judgements.
- Proven knowledge of different patient care delivery trends as applied to the nursing unit.
- Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills.
- Demonstrated coordination, networking and project management skills.
- Demonstrated strong organization skills with the ability to manage a diversified workload, rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated high levels of initiative, self-direction and an innovative approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts, regulations, legislation and standards related to Occupational Health and Safety in the hospital setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, MS Teams and ZOOM) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues with health care providers and patients.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to perform with minimal supervision; to prioritize duties.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
- Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job.
- Ability to travel between local sites.
- Valid driver’s license with access to vehicle may be required.
- Flexible hours may be required.
Preference Given to:
- Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing or in Adult Education is preferred.
- Two (2) years recent teaching experience of clinical adult education programs or equivalent, within the last five (5) years is preferred.
