Purpose:
Support the delivery of quality patient care and excellence in professional and clinical nursing practice. Provide leadership by promoting, developing and implementing evidence-based practice. Act as a role model in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Professional Standards and HSN’s Mission, Vision, and Values in both formal and informal learning environments.
Standard Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing BSc(N) or equivalent degree.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate is required.
- Current certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
- Successful completion of the Canadian Nurses Association’s Certification in Perioperative Nursing CPN(C).
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years, full-time equivalent clinical experience, within the last eight (8) years in the Operating Room
- Minimum of two (2) years recent, relevant teaching experience of clinical adult education programs or equivalent.
- Recent experience in the application of ORNAC Standards, Guidelines, and Position Statements for Perioperative Registered Nurses, to the care of peri-operative patients.

- Demonstrated skills as an educator using the principles of adult learning.
- Demonstrated skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, in a clear, concise manner considering the intended audience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate clinical education methodologies and assessment instruments.
- Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills for adult learners.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts, regulations, legislation and standards related to Occupational Health and Safety in the hospital setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of change management theories.
- Demonstrated strong organization skills with the ability to manage a diversified workload, rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated high levels of initiative, self-direction and an innovative approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrated skills in organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities and making evaluative judgements.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
Preference Given to:
- Master’s Degree of Science in Nursing or actively pursuing a Master’s is preferred.
