Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of Nurse Practitioner to function as a practitioner, consultant, and advocate in an interdisciplinary care team following the family-centered care philosophy. Providing advanced nursing care to critically ill and premature neonates in a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and to pediatric patients in a general Pediatric Inpatient Unit.
The ideal candidate will minimally be a Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and hold current certification of Registration as an RN (Extended Class), in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three (3) of experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Minimum of three (3) years’ of NICU and Pediatric nursing experience within the last (5) five years.
In addition, the candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of relevant advanced nursing practices.
- Experience in the development of strategies to build capacity and improve health outcomes.
- Experience in the development of clinical guidelines and protocols, promoting the use of research and evidence-based practice to guide patient-centered care.
- Recent teaching experience of applicable NICU and Pediatric clinical education programs.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Northeastern Ontario (NEO) Kids and Family Program provides pediatric care and services to newborns, children and youth across the northeast who have a variety of inherited and acquired health conditions. NEO Kids and Family Program also provides birthing centre and Violence and Intervention Services to clients across the Northeast.

Purpose:

Standard Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Required Qualifications:
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificate is required.
- Current certification in Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is required.
- Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) is required.
- Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
- Flexible hours may be required.
- Successful Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ of NICU and Pediatric nursing experience within the last (5) five years.
- Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of relevant advanced nursing practices.
- Experience in the development of strategies to build capacity and improve health outcomes.

- Demonstrated ability to integrate in-depth knowledge of advanced nursing practice and theory, health management, health promotion, disease/injury prevention and other relevant biomedical and psychosocial theories to provide comprehensive health services.
- Demonstrated knowledge regarding the nursing process and its application (i.e. assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care).
- Proven leadership abilities with high levels of critical and logical thinking, analysis and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons or facts.
- Demonstrated high levels of initiative, resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
- Demonstrated health assessment/clinical skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centred care.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a collaborative practice model as a member of an inter-professional team.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the relevant acts, regulations, legislation and standards related to Occupational Health and Safety in the hospital setting.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to manage workload and adapt quickly to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to assist clients and care providers with concern, empathy, confidentiality and privacy, communicate in a courteous and respectful manner, and consider intended audience.

Preference Given to:
- National Certification Corporation (NCC) Board Certification as a Neonatal or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is preferred.
