Purpose: The successful candidate will perform comprehensive gross examination of surgical specimens and forensic autopsies in accordance with established standards.
Education and Training:
- Graduate of an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s Program (MSc) or equivalent combination of education.
- Certified (or eligible for certification) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the Canadian Association of Pathologists (CAP) as Pathologist Assistant
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety awareness in 4 steps” training certificate is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent relevant experience in the specialty of Histology/Pathology is required.
Knowledge/ Skills/Ability:
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to correlate clinical and pathological findings.
- Demonstrated knowledge to identify and evaluate gross morphological characteristics of disease in different organs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of forensic terminology and dissection techniques.
- Demonstrated knowledge of voice dictation systems e.g Dragon Software.
- Demonstrated ability to gross a variety of complex surgical specimens.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently but recognize limitations and seek directions as appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to assist in the performance of Autopsy procedures and other morgue duties.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot specimen/tissue discrepancies and protocol errors that may impact on patient care.
- Demonstrated computer skills (e.g. Meditech and Vantage software)

- Physical ability to perform duties of this position, includes lifting, walking, bending and standing for long periods of time.
