KEY FUNCTION

Provide clinical expertise in the assessments and diagnostics of children up to the age of 18  within the NEO Kids Pediatric Outpatient Services. Apply therapy and theorry relating to behaviour and mental processes, related to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Pediatric Oncology (POGO).

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Pediatric Outpatient Services (POS).

 

DUTIES:

  1. Examine and assess behaviour, diagnose behavioural, emotional and cognitive disorders, counsel clients and provide therapy within Autism, FASD and POGO.
  2. Use standard pediatric psychological tests for assessment of Autism, FASD and Mental Health.
  3. Document and chart psychological assessments, intervention plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
  4. Plan intervention programming referral and treatment recommendations for children within POS.
  5. Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes (i.e. learning, language development, memory and perception) to develop treatment programs.
  6. Review literature, scientific studies, and stay current with any changes or developments in the fields of Autism, FASD Complex Care and POGO.
  7. Participate in round table with children and their families to better understand the diagnosis of FASD.
  8. Participate in process improvement work related to children within POS.
  9. Work collaboratively with all team members to determine, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.
  10. Prepare and submit statistical reports as required.
  11. Maintain up-to-date charting/records in compliance with HSN policies and procedures.
  12. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
  13. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  14. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  15. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  16. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  17. Perform other duties as required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited university.
  2. Current Certificate of Registration as a Psychologist in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is required.
  3. Successful completion of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA)/American Psychological Association’s (APA) accredited programs is preferred.
  4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a Pediatric Outpatient program.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with children and adolescents.
  3. Experience using screening tests for Autism, FASD and Child Mental Health is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated ability to perform assessments for Autism, FASD and pediatric mental Health using standardized testing.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge in screening for affect regulation problems.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to navigate scheduling system (i.e OCEANS).
  4. Demonstrated ability to support clients with relevant government disability applications.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in general health care and community resources.
  6. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  7. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  8. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  9. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  10. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
  11. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  12. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
