Senior Cardiac Echosonographer

KEY FUNCTION: 

Manage daily operation of the echo lab and ensure its compliance to standards. Perform general supervision of cardiac sonographers and provide mentorship to the team. 

REPORTING: 

Under the general direction of the Manager, Cardiodiagnostics and Perfusion.

DUTIES:

1. Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements in terms of operations and license, and make amendments on procedures as required.
2. Perform and oversee performance of echocardiographic examinations.
3. Provide general supervision of the technical and support staff.
4. Delegate specific responsibilities to the technical or support staff as required.
5. Provide technical and support staff with technical training and mentorship.
6. Perform daily administration of the laboratory, including scheduling and keeping records.
7. Operate and perform maintenance tracking of laboratory equipment.
8. Ensure the compliance of technical staff to the CorHealth Standards for Echocardiography.
9. Ensure quality patient care.
10. Coordinate patient care delivery and assist with the clinical guidance and development of staff.
11. Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
12. Coordinate student clinical rotations.
13. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
14. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
15. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
16. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
17. Perform other duties as required. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

1. Successful completion of a Diploma in Cardiac Sonography, from an accredited college.

2. Current Certificate of Registration with Sonography Canada, or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required.
3. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
4. Current Certificate of Registration in Pediatric Echocardiography is preferred.
5. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

EXPERIENCE: 

1. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a Cardiac Echosonography Department within a healthcare environment.
2. Experience in quality assurance, assessment/analysis of echo studies/reports is preferred.

3. Demonstrated ability to perform a range of echosonographic tests and procedures.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of governmental regulatory standards.
6. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
7. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
8. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
9. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload as required.
11. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
12. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
