KEY FUNCTION:
Manage daily operation of the echo lab and ensure its compliance to standards. Perform general supervision of cardiac sonographers and provide mentorship to the team.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Cardiodiagnostics and Perfusion.
DUTIES:
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements in terms of operations and license, and make amendments on procedures as required.
- Perform and oversee performance of echocardiographic examinations.
- Provide general supervision of the technical and support staff.
- Delegate specific responsibilities to the technical or support staff as required.
- Provide technical and support staff with technical training and mentorship.
- Perform daily administration of the laboratory, including scheduling and keeping records.
- Operate and perform maintenance tracking of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure the compliance of technical staff to the CorHealth Standards for Echocardiography.
- Ensure quality patient care.
- Coordinate patient care delivery and assist with the clinical guidance and development of staff.
- Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
- Coordinate student clinical rotations.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Successful completion of a Diploma in Cardiac Sonography, from an accredited college.
- Current Certificate of Registration with Sonography Canada, or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is required.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
- Current Certificate of Registration in Pediatric Echocardiography is preferred.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a Cardiac Echosonography Department within a healthcare environment.
- Experience in quality assurance, assessment/analysis of echo studies/reports is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated excellent judgment and proven analytical skills.
- Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to perform a range of echosonographic tests and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of governmental regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload as required.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
