KEY FUNCTION:
Oversee problem solving, process definition and execute the safety and clinical practice mandates at the departmental level. Assist with daily departmental workload, improvement work and development of staff.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Coordinator, Sudbury Breast Screening and Assessment Service (BSAS).
DUTIES:
- Ensure efficient delivery of Mammographic imaging procedures for inpatient and outpatient examinations to facilitate diagnosis.
- Work inter-professionally within all three areas of BSAS (i.e. Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP), Diagnostic Imaging and Breast Health Surgical clinics) to coordinate patient’s appointments.
- Collaborate with physicians (e.g. radiologists and surgeons) as required.
- Monitor, coordinate and assist with patient care delivery/departmental workload.
- Assist with clinical guidance and development of staff.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide technical guidance to staff for all Mammography and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) related equipment.
- Coordinate and monitor improvement initiatives related to accreditation, wait times and program quality boards.
- Maintain accurate records (e.g. equipment downtime logs) and coordinate all required preventative maintenance, HARP testing and physics testing of equipment to ensure it is in optimal working condition for high quality imaging; coordinate corrective action as required.
- Ensure ongoing compliance and active status with the Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography Accreditation Program (CAR-MAP) (e.g. complete applicable testing of equipment, image reviews, personel certifications, yearly updates, quality control testing and document submission).
- Assist with development of standards of work for departmental adherence to policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in departmental committees and quality assurance programs.
- Coordinate and participate in training/education related to Medical Imaging applications, organizational initiatives and others.
- Ensure OBSP participant assessment data, case closure with final diagnosis and sign off.
- Evaluate patient care and satisfaction on an ongoing basis and formulate solutions for improvement.
- Oversee developmental strategies and follow government body and organizational policies to ensure data is private, confidential, and protected.
- Support the development of processes related to the mobile screening initiatives as required.
- Remain available for standby outside the regular scheduled working hours for Medical Imaging program scheduling.
- Assume role as the Regional OBSP Mammography Technologist for the North East Region by liasing with Manager of Cancer Screening to ensure CAR-MAP/Physics compliant across North East OBSP sites, mammography image critique amongst North East Mammography Technologists and other regional related tasks.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in Medical Radiation Technology, from an accredited college.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Onatrio (CMRITO) is required.
- Successful completion of Breast Imaging 1 (formerly Mammography 1) & Breast Imaging 2 (formerly Mammography 2) courses are required.
- Imaging Breast Pathologist and Certificate in Breast Imaging is preferred.
- Successful completion of Leadership Development Program is preferred.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as a Medical Radiation Technologist in a Mammography department within a health care environment.
- Recent, relevant (full scope) practical experience in Mammography/OBSP is required.

- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the OBSP’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.

- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems (e.g. PACS, Expanse, and ICMS).
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with emphasis on communication, team work and collaboration.
- Demonstrated effective time management and organization skills with the ability to organize and prioritize as required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
