KEY FUNCTION:
Oversee and perform diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound equipment, ensuring the accurate capture of high-quality images for medical evaluation. Supervise and mentor junior staff, and students from accredited Colleges. Ensure adherence to safety protocols, regulatory standards, and best practices within the clinical environment.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging.
DUTIES:
1. Operate ultrasound equipment to conduct diagnostic imaging procedures on patients, ensuring the capture of clear and accurate images for physician evaluation.
2. Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and positioning them correctly to obtain optimal imaging results.
3. Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to communicate findings and support diagnosis through high-quality imaging.
4. Accurately document patient information, imaging data, and procedure details, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
5. Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients during procedures, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
6. Monitor, coordinate and assist with patient care delivery/departmental workload.
7. Assist with clinical guidance and development of staff.
8. Assist with development of standards of work for departmental adherence to policies and procedures.
9. Coordinate training and education related to Medical Imaging applications and organizational initiatives.
10. Support medical imaging on call process.
11. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
12. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
13. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
14. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
15. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Ultrasound or Diagnostic Medical Sonography, from an accredited college.
2. Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
3. Vascular and nuchal translucency scan certifications are preferred.
4. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an ultrasound department within a health care environment.
2. Expertise in small parts, pediatric and musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound is required.
3. Prior experience in mentoring students during clinical placements is preferred.

3. Demonstrated ability to mentor students and support personnel.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in general health care and community resources.
5. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA)/Ontario Medical Association’s (OMA) Communicable Disease Surveillance Protocols.
6. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
7. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
8. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
9. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
11. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
12. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
