FUNCTION

Provide technical support for simulation operations, including the maintenance and repair of computerized manikins and task trainers, as well as, the planning, execution, and evaluation of simulation activities.

 

REPORTING

Under the general direction of the Manager, Simulation Laboratory.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Provide daily logistical support for simulation activities, including preparing, setting-up, and tearing down all skills and simulation areas.
  2. Set-up health care and simulation equipment for clinical simulation activities within the Simulation Lab and in-hospital departments at HSN.
  3. Operate computerized manikins, and Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment.
  4. Assist simulation learners in navigating complex healthcare scenarios by acting as a health care provider during simulation activities.
  5. Apply moulage to simulators, task trainers and standardized patients to add realism to simulation activities as required.
  6. Conduct ongoing checks, and repair (within Simulation Technician abilities) of health care, simulation and associated equipment to ensure that it is maintained in good working order.
  7. Source and manage medical supplies needed to enhance delivery of simulation.
  8. Provide technical assistance, support, and training to faculty, instructors, learners, and staff in the use of simulation equipment.
  9. Communicate with simulation and equipment manufacturers regarding equipment updates, maintenance, troubleshooting and system problems.
  10. Maintain the lab consumable inventory, medical gases, and healthcare and simulation supplies.
  11. Wash and sterilize surgical instruments used in skills lab.
  12. Maintain general cleanliness, organization and tidiness of the simulation lab.
  13. Perform annual inventory.
  14. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  15. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  16. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  17. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required. 
  18. Perform other duties as required. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in a Health Sciences field, from an accredited college.
  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a health care environment.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated willingness to learn and troubleshoot simulators, manikin software, AVIT systems, wired and wireless networks.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  3. Demonstrated critical thinking, judgment and analytical skills.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of communicable disease protocols and infection prevention measures relevant to healthcare environments.
  5. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  6. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  7. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  8. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  9. Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  10. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  11. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

 

PERSONAL SUITABILITY: 

  1. Successful Criminal Record Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) is required.
  2. Ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and faculty.
