Health Sciences North (HSN) is seeking an innovative individual for the position of a Social Worker, Bachelors. The successful applicant will possess completion of a Baccalaureate degree in Social Work, as well as current registration as a Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
We are looking for someone with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years recent experience in a relevant mental health related field. Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention Certification, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (basic and advanced), and Addictions counseling is preferred.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Mental Health and Addictions Program of Health Sciences North delivers community and hospital-based mental health and addictions services across the Sudbury, Manitoulin and East Algoma districts. Our dedicated staff provide a range of services including assessment, treatment, support and consultation. The goal is to ensure clients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right place.

Education and Training:
- Successful completion of a Baccalaureate degree in Social Work
- Currently registered as a Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
- Familiarity with the following is an asset:
- Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Suicide Intervention Certification
- Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (basic and advanced)
- Addictions counseling
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years recent experience in a relevant mental health related field
Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
- Highly developed skills in the area of assessment and therapeutic intervention with individuals, groups and families
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of the following:
- DSM IV
- Pharmacology
- Mental Health Act
- Child and Family Services Act
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated knowledge and management of ethical issues
- Demonstrated time management skills, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills and organizational skills
- Proven problem solving skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software, e.g Word, Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals
Personal Suitability:
- Proven ability to take an active role in dealing with aggressive/agitated clients in a non-violent manner
- Proven ability to foster and improve relationships between professionals, programs and agencies
- Proven leadership, problem solving and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
- Availability for travel to other sites
- Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
- Clear criminal record check is required
French Language Service Designation:
Bilingualism requirements will be posted in accordance with the FLS Designation Plan. If a position is designated bilingual and no bilingual candidates (both internal and external) meet the qualifications, unilingual candidates may be considered.
