KEY FUNCTION:
Work with a multidisciplinary Health Care Professional team on various research/program evaluation projects. Support equipment commissioning and quality assurance, research and educational activities within the Department of Medical Physics.

 

REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Chief Physicist and Manager, Northeast Cancer Centre.

 

DUTIES:
1. Assist with research (data collection, analysis etc.), conduct literature reviews, and prepare presentations.

2. Assist with dosimetric measurements with therapeutic radiation beams.
3. Assist with computerized data analysis and the preparation of scientific reports, radiation safety reports and teaching manuals.
4. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achive goal outcomes.

5. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
6. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
7. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.

8. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
1. To be eligible an applicant must be either:

  • an undergraduate student enrolled in a physics program or a program of a related discipline at a recognized university who is returning to undergraduate studies in the term following the studentship or
  • a student in the final year of undergraduate studies or who has recently completed undergraduate studies in a physics program or program of a related discipline and can provide proof of application and/or enrolment in a graduate program in physics or biophysics at a recognized university at the time of application

2. Studentships are awarded on the basis of:

  • academic achievement (minimum GPA of 3.30, as calculated according to percentage to GPA conversion scheme of the applicant’s university)
  • demonstrated interest in the field of medical physics.

3. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:
1. Recent and relevant experience working in a health sciences related field is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrated excellent research skills.

2. Demonstrated ability to complete literature searches and work within Reference Manager.
3. Demonstrated ability to compile and analyse data; compile and write reports.
4. Demonstrated ability to utilize various databases and software systems.

5. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
6. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
7. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.

8. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

9. Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload.
10. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.

11. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
