KEY FUNCTION

Provide technical leadership, guidance, and oversight for enterprise network infrastructure, including core networking, connectivity, and security services across the IT Infrastructure portfolio. Ensure technical compliance, define the network strategy, architecture, and roadmap, and lead the implementation and adoption of resilient, secure, and scalable network solutions. Act as a key liaison between IT and organizational stakeholders, translating clinical and business requirements into network capabilities that support reliable, high-performance care delivery and operations.

 

REPORTING 

Under the general direction of the Manager, IT Infrastructure.

 

DUTIES:

  1. Manage the day-to-day operations within the team and oversee ongoing activities.
  2. Lead and participate in the planning, design, implementation, and lifecycle management of network infrastructure; apply best practice project and change management methodologies.
  3. Develop monitoring methods and monitor issues that may adversely affect patient care; identify and implement opportunities for increased efficiencies.
  4. Ensure network security and compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies, including the protection of sensitive health information.
  5. Provide leadership in staff development, including training, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  6. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of enterprise network architecture, including its integration with clinical systems, medical devices, and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
  7. Contribute to the development of the network strategy and roadmap, evaluating emerging technologies and their applicability within the healthcare environment.
  8. Engage with vendors and service providers for support, solution design, and procurement activities related to network infrastructure.
  9. Oversee network operations including configuration management, incident response, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  10. Support and enforce operational standards, including change management, incident management, and risk management practices.
  11. Perform on-call and call-back duties on a rotating basis as required.
  12. Oversee the work of others in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), its regulations, and HSN policies.
  13. Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
  14. Contribute to learner development by providing academic support, mentorship, preceptorship and supervision as required.
  15. Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
  16. Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
  17. Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
  18. Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  1. Minimum of a three (3) year Diploma in a related field, from an accredited college.
  2. Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience supporting and managing enterprise network infrastructure within a healthcare environment.
  2. Experience with core networking technologies, including routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, and network security in a large, multi-site environment is required.
  3. Experience leading or providing technical direction for network initiatives, including the design, implementation, and lifecycle management of network solutions supporting clinical and business systems is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  1. Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise network architecture, including routing, switching, wireless, WAN, and network segmentation.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of modern data centre networking technologies, including software-defined networking (e.g., Cisco ACI) and leaf-spine architectures.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, NAC, segmentation, and secure access design.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of core network services, including DNS, DHCP, IP address management (IPAM), and load balancing.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of network monitoring, performance management, and troubleshooting methodologies across all network layers.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of high availability, redundancy, and disaster recovery design within enterprise network environments.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of change management, incident management, and risk management practices within IT operations.
  8. Demonstrated ability to lead technical design, validation, and implementation of network solutions aligned with organizational requirements.
  9. Demonstrated ability to assess and adopt new technologies, driving continuous improvement in network capability and service delivery.
  10. Demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and developing technical staff.
  11. Demonstrated strong collaboration skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  12. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  13. Demonstrated ability to use data and metrics to inform operational and strategic decisions.
  14. Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
  15. Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  16. Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
  17. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  18. Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload
  19. Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  20. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
