KEY FUNCTION:
Perform diagnostic imaging procedures using high-frequency sound waves to create visual representations of the internal structures of the body. Prepare and position patients, operate ultrasound equipment, and capture detailed images for interpretation by physicians. Ensure patient comfort, maintain equipment functionality, and adhere to safety protocols while producing accurate and high-quality diagnostic images.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Manager, Medical Imaging.
DUTIES:
- Operate ultrasound equipment to conduct diagnostic imaging procedures on patients, ensuring the capture of clear and accurate images for physician evaluation.
- Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures by explaining the process, ensuring comfort, and positioning them correctly to obtain optimal imaging results.
- Work closely with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to communicate findings and support diagnosis through high-quality imaging.
- Accurately document patient information, imaging data, and procedure details, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Provide compassionate care and emotional support to patients during procedures, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Determine and align improvement projects with HSN’s Strategic Plan; monitor and adjust to achieve goal outcomes.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Educate and promote health, safety and wellness in the work place.
- Represent the department or program on various committees and in meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a two (2) year Diploma in Ultrasound or Diagnostic Medical Sonography, from an accredited college.
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) is required.
- Nuchal Translucency (NT) certification is required or willingness to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
- Vascular scan certification is preferred.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in an ultrasound department within a health care environment.
- Experience in small parts, general, obstetrical, and musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasounds is preferred.
- Vascular experience is preferred.
- Experience in Ultrasound Special Procedures (i.e. biopsies) is preferred.

- Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of quality improvement methodology for process improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
- Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) and patient information systems.
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize workload as required.
- Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
