KEY FUNCTION:
Coordinate patient appointments and perform clerical duties for the department.
REPORTING:
Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, Supportive Care/Patient Education and Psychosocial Oncology Lead.
DUTIES:
- Update patient information and schedule appointments and tests.
- Document physician orders and prepare patient charts.
- Register patients.
- Book appointments.
- Respond to inquiries and relay telephone calls and messages.
- Arrange discharge services for patients.
- Participate in education and training specific to current, relevant federal and provincial health and safety legislation, standards and guidelines.
- Participate in hospital training as required.
- Assist with improvement initiatives as required.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- Minimum of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)).
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
EXPERIENCE:
- One (1) year recent relevant experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 45 words per minute.
- Demonstrated computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook), Meditech Expanse, Mosaiq and applicable patient information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with patients, families and healthcare workers.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated compliance with HSN’s privacy policy.
- Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.

- Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
